Taco (Kuskokwim Taco von Flohr) came from Schutzhund breeding, joining our family at 7 weeks old. A serious puppy, he took SAR training to heart. Years later, he’d rouse from a nap every time we approached the site of his very first search lesson (“are we there yet?”) even though we never trained there again. He searched for victims of drowning and wildfire but made it clear he preferred finding people alive. Taco was a gentleman, my partner at Churchill Downs in 1996, representing our nation’s volunteer SAR dogs at a Pedigree Awards Banquet.
