Lapse

I can’t believe it’s been 9 months since my last post here. No excuses. Busy? A new hyper-energy pup – Shelby the sneak, the firecracker, whippersnapper – to keep Otis company. Trying to survive the daily news? Here’s a poem from a couple months ago:

Bridge over the American

I walk against the flow of traffic, can’t wait

and just stand still with Stars & Stripes in my hands.

Under this bridge runs the river – the South Fork –

over rocks, past eddies, the workings of fate.

We’re gathered on the bridge with placards that tell

our passion – for peace, equality – not hate.

Cars and trucks and pickups pass by, drivers wave,

honk, thumbs-up or -down. We live in a free state

as the river rides its rapids out of sight.

We keep our flags waving, our signs that declare

our nation must also be good – to be great.
