Pattycake was unexpected – our "international shepherd," daughter of a traveling-salesman (Tervuren by his looks, from somewhere on the unfenced ridges) who broke into our trailer while Pepper was in season. Patty was a whiz at airscent search, covering the whole territory; making her find then leading Hatch along her whole wide-ranging route through manzanita thicket. In self-defense Hatch put her in harness and made her an on-line trailing dog. Patty followed one missing girl’s scent - the school-bus route - over 7 miles of pavement.
