Saturday was Open Farm Day at Wakamatsu Farm, with theme of Gratitude. And daughter Heather and daughter-in-law Dana were visiting. Here’s something to be grateful for:
Circling the Pond
We started on the bird-walk
but when the guy with the spotting scope
turned around because it was time
to get back to the cars –
to plug back in to the daily world –
we kept on going because
we hadn’t seen each other for so long,
and a trail around the pond was beckoning
with November gilding the oaks
and russet buckeyes littering the path,
and I’d show you the wet meadow
where Shingle Creek runs from goldfields
to become a pond
where Egret stands sentinel against ripples,
and because the sky was so blue
and it felt like the world would run away
if we didn’t notice every detail
and keep it in live memory for next time,
shared so I could plug into yours
and you into mine
and we’d have this time
remembered again and ever after.
