Halloween and Día de los Muertos side by side on Main Street this year, and Sugar Skull Art Walk in two of our galleries to honor the dead. Some ofrendas speak to broader losses:
Outside the Gallery, Looking In
for Día de los Muertos, Center Street Gallery
Plaster skeletons of doe and dragonfly,
jackrabbit, fish.
Dog’s skull painted w/ flowers –
dear departed friend.
Alebrije rises – whale flukes, wings of eagle,
buck’s antlers.
Mystic beast appears in dream
for the disappearing species.
I stand outside the window, aim camera,
the light is wrong.
Wings dissolve in glass reflection:
stop sign, power lines and poles.
